The secret of health for mind and body is to live the present moment wisely and seriously.

Gentle mobilization and flexibilization

In my yoga class for the 60+ generation, the focus is on individual adaptation to your constitution, capabilities and any ailments. As we get older, our daily shapes vary more and so my aim is to gently mobilize your body and make it more flexible. Through these adapted exercises, we not only promote physical health, but also general well-being.

Tailor-made practice for every day, sitting postures on the chair

The yoga exercises are carefully adapted to the needs, and I pay particular attention to the form of the day and individual requirements. Instead of traditional seated postures on the floor, I offer gentle seated exercises on a chair or on a large ball to ensure comfort and participation for all.

Why is yoga so important for seniors and what does it do?

Yoga increases flexibility. Yoga offers gentle, soothing stretches that keep your joints and muscles supple and help you to cope with everyday activities with ease.

- Strengthens the muscles: The different yoga poses target different muscle groups and ensure strength and stability. This reduces the risk of falling and increases independence.

- Improves balance: As we get older, our balance can deteriorate, making falls more likely. Yoga exercises promote balance and confidence in your own body.

- Reduces stress and relaxes: Yoga helps to reduce stress and strengthen mental health. This is essential for a fulfilling life in old age.

Common concerns about yoga for seniors and how to overcome them

Yoga is a gentle and versatile practice that is ideal for seniors. Nevertheless, there are often concerns that prevent older people from participating. However, two of the most common myths that cause these fears can be debunked.

Myth 1: „I'm too old or inflexible.“

A common misconception is that yoga is only suitable for young, sporty or already flexible people. In truth, yoga can be practiced by people of all ages, regardless of physical fitness.

The myth is clearly refuted by scientific findings. Studies with older adults show that yoga has a variety of positive effects, regardless of age or initial level of physical fitness. In particular, yoga improves mobility, balance and muscle strength.

Myth 2: „Yoga is impossible if you have health restrictions.“

Many seniors with chronic illnesses are unsure whether yoga is suitable for them. In fact, yoga is particularly beneficial when it is tailored to individual needs.

Studies show that yoga can be used specifically for various health conditions. Whether it's back problems, arthritis, cardiovascular disease or other chronic conditions, yoga offers a safe and effective way to promote health and well-being. It improves joint mobility, relieves pain and improves circulation, which is particularly beneficial for people with arthritis or back pain. For cardiovascular disease, yoga helps to lower blood pressure and reduce stress through targeted breathing techniques and gentle movements.

It is important to note that yoga is not a competition. The exercises can be adapted with aids such as chairs, blocks or straps so that everyone can practise yoga regardless of their physical condition. The practice aims to promote one's own health step by step without exceeding individual limits. This makes yoga a valuable support for leading an active and fulfilling life despite health restrictions.

However, it is advisable for people with health problems to consult a doctor or therapist before starting a yoga practice.
